Mr Rachman is a world respected commentator on international affairs. He has been a journalist for over 22 years, the last 16 years for two of the world's top business publications; The Economist and now the Financial Times, where he is now the Chief Foreign Affairs Columnist. Based in London, he comments on British, European and US foreign policy and embraces many of the word's key current affairs concerns; political leadership, globalisation and world trade, security and the global war on terror, climate change and the global energy debate. His past experience has seen him based in Brussels, Washington DC and Bangkok.

Gideon Rachman is also a contributing editor to The Washington Quarterly from 1996-2006, and has written various academic articles on topics such as EU enlargement and American policy to China. He has also written freelance articles for Prospect. He is a regular guest on TV and radio, including CNN, BBC, Sky, Fox and NPR. He occasionally writes on other diverse topics including soccer and the world wine industry.

Gideon has been invited to speak at numerous academic and business events, including conferences held by the Financial Times and previously The Economist. He is also a regular speaker or chairman at events hosted by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), Wilton Park (run by the UK Foreign Office), Chatham House, the Bilderberg Group and the World Economic Forum. He has also spoken at, or moderated sessions with, numerous corporate clients including Abbot Mead Vickers, Dresdner Bank, McKinsey, Morgan Stanley, PriceWaterhouseCoopers and the Australian Wine Research Institute.

Gideon Rachman began his career in journalism 1984-87with the BBC World Service, presenting and producing current affairs programmes, including 24 Hours and The World Today. From 1987-88 was visiting fellow and Fulbright scholar, Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University before becoming a Washington DC reporter for The Sunday Correspondent (1989-90). He joined The Economist in the US as its US editor, then transferred to Bangkok as South-east Asia correspondent. He then became, Britain editor in London (1997-200) before moving to Brussels as bureau chief, EU correspondent and author of the weekly "Charlemagne: column.

Gideon has a first class honours degree in History (1984) from Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge University, UK.
