Based in Singapore, Roman Scott is a prominent figure in Singapore and Southeast Asia business circles, well known as an active commentator and advisor on global economic developments and the Asia-Pacific region. His focus has been primarily on the financial services industry, but has also worked with the energy, oil and gas industry. He has been the economic spokesman (since 2005) for the British Chamber of Commerce in Singapore and also serves a Board Member. In this role, he regularly advises the British High Commission and UK government visitors and other dignitaries to Asia. Roman Scott is the founder of The Calamandar Group, a Singapore based property and investment firm which he established following a successful career as one of the world’s top strategy consultants.
He has clocked up over 20 years of board-level advisory experience to more than 50 financial institutions and Government agencies in the UK, Europe, South Africa, Japan and Southeast Asia. He previously led the Boston Consulting Group’s bank reconstruction and risk management work in Asia after the Asian financial crisis of 1997, work which included time advising the Indonesian Government (IBRA). He is a leading authority on Asian regional banks and an expert in the area of global wealth management.
Roman Scott is a regular columnist for regional publications and has been invited onto BBC World for his interpretation and forecasts of recent economic and financial developments. He is a popular presenter at the British Chamber’s quarterly economic update meetings in Singapore, along with many other public speaking engagements. Refreshingly, he is always prepared to take a stand and tells things the way he sees them. Roman has been proved correct on the economic calls he has made since 2001 including the recent financial crisis and economic downturn. At business conferences, he captures audiences’ attention from the very first minute through a combination of well-researched numbers, anecdotal examples, an engaging, forthright style and a good dose of British wit.
Roman is the founder and chairman of The Calamander Group and is the Managing Director of Calamandar Capital. Before this, he was a Partner with Boston Consulting Group in Singapore (2000-2007). He was previously Vice President and Head of Financial Services with Gemini Consulting (1993-1999) based in Tokyo and back in the UK he was with The MAC Group (1987-92), a Boston-based strategy firm.
He holds a Masters of Philosophy from Pembroke College, Oxford and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from Manchester University and was educated at Dulwich College, London.
