Ross O'Brien

Mr O'Brien is a well-respected, independent expert on the information technology and communications sector in Asia-Pacific with over 18 years as a telecoms and IT industry analyst, commentator, consultant and writer. He is based in Hong Kong and has lived and worked in Asia for nearly 15 years.

Until June 2007, he was Practice Director for Information and Communications Technologies at Intercedent Asia, helping both network carriers and vendor clients develop market entry strategies, analyse client buying criteria and build professional services portfolios within Asia's enterprise markets. He also conducted feasibility analysis and due diligence projects, demand analysis and advising on strategy and implementation plans. He is respected for his research and analytical skills which therefore brings great depth to his presentations and to moderated discussions based upon a range of topics from global and Asia telecom market developments to new trends in digital convergent technologies.

Mr O'Brien has now rejoined The Economist Group where works for the Economist Intelligence Unit  heading its Corporate Network programme for senior regional executives in Hong Kong.

Ross is a contributor or editor to various publications, including TelecomAsia, the Economist Intelligence Unit and Von magazine and is called upon for comments about the Asian telecoms market analysis by the likes CNBC Asia and CNN.  He has presented and co-chaired various events including Economist Conferences' Asia-Pacific Telecommunications Roundtable (2005, 2004, and 2001) as well as speaking at Corporate Network meetings.

Past client assignments include confidential personal briefings for CEOs or visiting board members to Asia, providing kick-off presentations and facilitation of regional strategy and planning meetings as well as presentations and discussion-facilitation at client gatherings. Indeed, Mr. O'Brien has been regularly engaged by some of the world's largest multinational infrastructure vendors and service providers including corporations such as Cisco, Comverse, IBM, Intel, KPMG, Juniper, Microsoft, Nokia, Networks, PCCW, PT Telekom Indonesia, RAD and Vanco.
