Interpreting Economic and Public Policy Developments for Senior Business Leaders

Based in Singapore, Andrew Staples is the Regional Director APAC, Thought Leadership and Public Policy, Economist Impact, part of The Economist Group. He was formerly the Global Director and Chief Economist for the Economics Corporate Network. Andrew provides clients with insight and analysis on a range of issues related to doing business in the Asia Pacific region. He regularly presents to client groups and provides briefings to boards and senior business managers. He also chairs and moderates some of the major Economist Group events.

In this role, he has delivered customized briefings to senior executives (including Fortune 500 C-suite) and public figures (including heads of state) in his areas of expertise which include international political economy, foreign direct investment, corporate strategy and comparative management, and regularly appears in the international media (BBC, CNN, CNBC, Channel News Asia, Al Jazeera). 

Andrew has published widely in his areas of expertise and his major publications include Responses to Regionalism in East Asia: Japanese Production Networks in the Automotive Sector published as part of the Palgrave Macmillan Asian Business Series and chapters in edited volumes including Asian Inward and Outward FDI: New Challenges in the Global Economy and popular textbooks including Asian Business and Management. He was also previously a Senior Editor for the internationally peer reviewed journal Asian Business and Management.

In addition to internal Economist Group events, Andrew is frequently called upon to deliver custom briefings, keynotes presentations and, as a senior editor with the Economist Group, he has become an expert moderator of business issues, chairing high-level panels featuring senior business leaders, politicians, academics and thought leaders on a regular basis. Andrew brings a high-level of editorial rigour to the process of preparing for and moderating panels. He incorporates the Economist Intelligence Unit's economic and geopolitical analysis along with his own observations and experience, to become a potent presenter for corporate meetings, including strategy board meetings, planning and budget-setting sessions, leadership off-sites and for gatherings with visiting global leaders.
